Where to find the best street art in Melbourne

Melbourne is one of the street art capitals of the world. From the laneways of the CBD to the suburbs of Fitzroy or Prahran, the city is full of tags and monumental murals, painted by internationally renowned artists. Wandering through its streets will sometimes make you feel like you’re visiting an open-air art gallery! But you will have to venture off the beaten track to admire some of these artworks. To help you not miss anything, here is the ultimate guide to where to find the best street art in Melbourne!

The most beautiful murals in Melbourne

Street art is omnipresent in Melbourne. On almost every street corner, you might come face to face with another spectacular artwork. It’s part of the city’s identity, and for me it’s even one of its main attractions. Discovering Melbourne without admiring its murals is like visiting Sydney without going to see the Opera House!

It would be impossible to establish an exhaustive list of all the murals in Melbourne. Firstly because there are too many of them, but also because street art is ephemeral and some end up disappearing! This is why in these guides, suburb by suburb, I will only mention the murals that I consider to be the most beautiful, those that are really worth the detour. As you will see, this is already a very very long list... I will also introduce you to some of the talented artists whose artworks cover the walls of the city.
